MLB Players Likely To Shuffle Amid Trade Deadline

While the MLB season still remains within its inaugural phase, the massive storm bringing about stress and chaos within general managers also known as the trade deadline marches closer.

During what seems to be the shortest hours of the season for executives, yet concurrently the longest hours of the season for players, teams typically either throw in the towel, sell their assets or add more weapons to their arsenal in preparation for a playoff run.

With that said, multiple candidates appear more and more likely to switch jerseys as we move closer toward July 31. Perhaps the most coveted potential trade asset comes with a nasty four–seam fastball, curve and cutter. Yes, we’re referring to the 2014 World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner. The San Francisco ace’s talent appears wasted after each start, as his team currently resides in the basement of the NL West. Look for the Giants to trade the hard–throwing lefty in exchange for rebuilding pieces to a contender such as the Dodgers, Twins or Rays.

Toronto’s Marcus Stroman appears as yet another pitcher likely to switch ball clubs prior to the trade deadline. Similar to Bumgarner, Stroman has displayed an ability to get outs posting a 2.96 ERA despite playing for a bottom–tier team. With just one year left on his contract, expect the Blue Jays to trade Stroman while they can still get something back for him.

Down in Washington, the Nationals appear lost amidst Bryce Harper’s departure for Philly. Looking to rebuild, Washington could deal third baseman Anthony Rendon. While the slugger has yet to sign an extension with his team, the Nationals could trade Rendon, acquiring some rebuilding pieces before his contract expires in 2020. Washington could also make relief pitcher Sean Doolittle available, as contenders such as the Red Sox and Cubs both desperately require bullpen assistance.

Rounding out the assembly of effective players stuck on ineffective teams sits .261-hitting Nicholas Castellanos, speedster Billy Hamilton, team–leading home run hitter Jose Abreu and closer Will Smith. All of these players possess high value, which could potentially result in top prospects coming over in future trade situations. Although these players most likely will feel the most uneasy amid this year’s trade deadline, no guarantees exists, as the trade deadline remains increasingly difficult to track.
