The Brooklyn Nets have agreed to part ways with Steve Nash after a disappointing start to the season.

While there is no decision made yet on who will replace, the organization said it plans on making one in the “near future.”

“Since becoming head coach, Steve was faced with a number of unprecedented challenges, and we are sincerely grateful for his leadership, patience and humility throughout his tenure,” Nets general manager Sean Marks said in a statement.

“Personally, this was an immensely difficult decision; however, after much deliberation and evaluation of how the season has begun, we agreed that a change is necessary at this time.

In 2020, the Nets signed Nash to a four-year agreement to coach the team.

It was hoped that the Canadian Hall of Fame basketball point guard would help the team win a championship.

The best shot was in 2021 right after the Nets acquired James Harden – who joined the talents of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

But Irving and Harden suffered injuries during the playoff run and the Nets haven’t been the same since.

Now, the Nets find themselves with just a 2-5 hole to start the year and are making a change out of desperation.

Another issue for the Nets is the Irving dilemma.

He recently promoted a book that has been documented for containing misleading antisemitic information.

In addition, he’s had other off-the-court issues.

This includes his refusal to take the vaccine and miss home games, as well as staying out of the lineup due to “family and personal stuff.”

Meanwhile, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports that Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka, who has been suspended by the team is the most likely option to succeed Nash as the new Nets coach.

In fact, it’s could get done within the next two days, he said.

The Celtics suspended Udoka for the entire season for allegedly making inappropriate comments toward a team staffer.

The team cited that he committed “violations of team policies.”

Nets assistant Jacque Vaughn will serve as the interim coach for tonight’s game against the Chicago Bulls.

Ben Simmons inept shooting ability has become a radioactive topic of conversation around the NBA in recent years, but Brooklyn Nets Coach Steve Nash doesn’t seem fazed. In fact, his recent praise of Simmons is a significant departure from typical discourse about the oft-maligned player.

In an interview with ESPN, Nash said that his team stood to benefit from Simmons’ play, with or without a jump shot.

With Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant on the floor, Simmons’ defensive ability and paint presence seem to be enough for Nash.

“That’s why I don’t care if he ever shoots a jump shot for the Brooklyn Nets. He’s welcome to, but that is not what makes him special and not what we need,” Nash said. “He’s a great complement to our team, and he’s an incredible basketball player because of his versatility.”

Nash’s comments come after a tumultuous season for Simmons, in which he refused to play for the Philadelphia 76ers, was traded to the Nets and missed more time with a back injury. His holdout for the 76ers and subsequent absence with Brooklyn received widespread criticism throughout the league.

Despite accusations of being soft or entitled, Simmons’ qualifications as a potential contributor for the Nets is undeniable. Before trouble began in Philadelphia, Simmons played exceptionally well in his early career and earned Rookie of the Year honors in 2018. His skills as a defender often outweighed his inability to shoot well for a time, as he and teammate Joel Embiid led the team to multiple postseason runs.

In Brooklyn, Simmons is on a roster with even more star power, which could allow him to become a role player for Irving and Durant. This could benefit him for a number of reasons, as his time in the spotlight and obvious weaknesses on offense have both been subjects of intense criticism. Nash’s plan seems to be to find a position for Simmons to thrive.

The Nets are coming off a profoundly underwhelming season, as the team underperformed during the regular season and lost to the Boston Celtics in four games in the first round of the playoffs. Simmons hasn’t appeared in a game since the 2021 Eastern Conference semifinals, when Embiid blamed the team’s loss on his poor performance against the Atlanta Hawks.

There’s still no set timetable when it comes to Ben Simmons’ return to action for the Brooklyn Nets.

Simmons, who recently had his request for a trade from the 76ers fulfilled, has yet to play a game this season. He was dealing with mental health issues in Philadelphia, then, following the deal, he’s endured back issues.

Nets coach Steve Nash spoke to reporters Sunday and said that the player is not currently doing any basketball activities. However, he “fully expects” Simmons to see time this season.

“The physical therapist just works on his rehabilitation,” Nash said. “I wasn’t on [the table] working on him. They do what they do in a clinical setting and try to improve his condition … A lot of bio-mechanical work, manual therapy, all sorts of stuff to get him in a position to start to move in the right sequence and fashion.”

ESPN reports:

Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons has remained sidelined with an irritation of the L-4 disc of the lower spine, but there’s hope he can return for a “couple” of regular games prior to the Eastern Conference playoffs.

The Nets are hopeful that Simmons can return to play in regular-season games prior to a postseason likely to begin in the play-in tournament in mid-April. The Nets play the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers in their two final regular season games on April 8 and 10, respectively, prior to the start of the play-in tournament that week.

“Although there’s no real timetable, we’ve got to take it day by day and see how he responds,” Nets GM Sean Marks said. “And hopefully sooner the better. We need to get this group together and get minutes together on the court.”

The Kyrie Irving vaccination saga has persisted despite the start of the 2021-22 NBA season being less than two weeks away. The seven-time All-Star’s resistance to getting vaccinated has been an ongoing headache for the Brooklyn Nets organization as well as a distraction for a team with championship ambitions.

According to NBA insiders Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst, “the Nets remain unclear on All-Star guard Kyrie Irving’s ultimate intentions to get vaccinated and have made no decision on whether the organization will accommodate him as a part-time player this season.”

New York is currently enforcing a mandate requiring vaccination for all athletes who play or practice in the city.

It may be possible the Nets will decide to completely sideline Irving, which would be an obvious blow to the team given the value he’s able to provide offensively. Last season, ‘Uncle Drew’ became just the ninth player in NBA history to join the exclusive 50-40-90 club, joining the ranks of shooters such as Steph Curry, Larry Birdand Irving’s head coach, Steve Nash.

The Nets held their first practice yesterday at the HSS Training Center in Brooklyn after holding the start of their training camp in San Diego. The team will practice again today and Thursday in preparation for their second preseason game this Friday.

However, Irving, who practiced with the team in San Diego, will not be able to participate until he receives a dose of a vaccine to protect himself, and other members of the organization, from COVID-19. Nash asserted that the Nets will not practice outside of NYC to accommodate Irving.

“No, this is our home, this is where we’re going to practice and we have almost a whole group,” he said. “So that’s a positive, and we’re just working at getting better every day and focusing on the things we can control.”

An agreement negotiated by the NBA and the Players Union states that players will be docked 1/91.6th of their salaries for each game missed due to protocol violations. The 29-year-old, who is set to make $35.3 million this season, would thus potentially lose about $380,000 for each home game missed.

During the NBA Media Day, Irving was required to attend the event virtually due to the protocols implemented. Over video call, he explained to the press why he couldn’t attend the event in person alongside his teammates.

“I appreciate your question, bro,” Irving said. “Honestly, I like to keep that stuff private… handle it the right way with my team and go forward together with a plan. So, you know, obviously I’m not able to be present there today. But that doesn’t mean that I’m putting any limits on the future of me being able to join the team.”

Unsurprisingly, his selfish justifications have prompted criticism from media members, like the one and only Stephen A Smith. “Kyrie Irving has already leaked from his camp that says, ‘Hey, if I go somewhere else, I’m not playing, I won’t play, I’ll retire,'” Smith tweeted.

Despite the organization’s efforts to listen, support, and educate Irving, the Nets may just have to accept the possibility that the NBA Finals must be won without his contribution.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Khris Middleton powered the Milwaukee Bucks to a blowout victory over the Brooklyn Nets to force Game 7.

On Thursday, Antetokounmpo scored 30 points and recorded 17 rebounds, while Middleton added 38 points and 10 rebounds as the Bucks easily cruised to a 104-89 win. Middleton was 11-for-16 from the field. He set a new playoff career-high and became the first player in NBA history to record 30 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, five steals and five threes in a playoff game.

“We don’t think about any type of pressure at all,” Middleton said. “It’s a basketball game. It’s as simple as that. I know it’s lose-or-go-home, but at the same time, it’s just basketball. You’ve got to have fun with it. Those moments are fun, you know, when the game’s on the line.”

Kevin Durant attempted to lead the Nets to another come-from-behind victory to close out the series but fell short. The Nets star had a team-high 32 points for Brooklyn. Durant was able to bring Brooklyn to within five on two separate occasions. Durant scored 10 straight points for Brooklyn during a third-quarter stretch to narrow a 14-point deficit to five. However, Middleton responded with six straight points to close out the quarter, including a buzzer-beating putback. And later in the fourth quarter, Durant sparked a Nets 10-0 run to get the game within five points again. Yet again, Middleton responded, drawing a foul on a three-point attempt. He made all three free throws, which started Milwaukee’s own 14-0 run. That put the game out of reach for good.

“He’s a shot maker,” Durant said of Middleton. “You see the shot go through the basket, you get more confidence. He made timely shots for them.”

Durant’s co-star, James Harden, played 40 minutes despite still dealing with a hamstring injury. Harden produced 16 points, five rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Blake Griffin added 12 points for the Nets. Those three players were the only members of the Nets to finish with double-digit points.

The Bucks shot just 7-of-33 from three-point range. Middleton converted 5-of-8 three-point attempts, while the rest of the squad went just 2-of-25. However, Milwaukee made up for their lack of long-range shot-making by outscoring the Nets 26-4 in fast-break points.

“It definitely hurt us,” Nets coach Steve Nash said of the fast-break points. “That’s where they’re really strong. I thought we had some problems getting back in transition.”

Shooting woes also hampered Brooklyn. They weren’t much better than the Bucks from beyond the arc, converting just 9-of-30 attempts. In 36 minutes, Jeff Green scored five points on 2-of-9 shooting. Joe Harris, one of the NBA’s premier three-point shooters, finished just 1-for-4 from deep. And although Durant made 15-of-30 field goals, he only made 2-of-8 shots from three-point range.

Turnovers were another big part of the game. Brooklyn had 16 turnovers, and the Bucks managed to turn those mistakes into 20 points. Although the Nets forced Milwaukee to commit 15 turnovers themselves, Brooklyn only scored eight points off of the Bucks’ turnovers. Milwaukee also outrebounded Brooklyn 36-30 and 15-9 on the offensive glass.

The series now heads back to Brooklyn, where Game 7 will take place. Through the first six games of the series, the home team has won every single time. That bodes well for Brooklyn, who are hoping to make their first Eastern Conference Finals appearance since 2003. If the Bucks win, they will make their second Eastern Conference Finals appearance in the last three years.

Game 7 will tip off at 8:30 p.m. EST. on Saturday night.

The Brooklyn Nets were without superstar Kyrie Irving in a critical Game 5 matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks – so Kevin Durant turned on the afterburner to torch them with a historic playoff performance.

Durant turned in an eye-popping, historical game, putting up a ridiculous stat line with 49 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists. Durant alone accumulated 41.5% of all Nets scoring, which pushed Brooklyn to a 114-108 victory.

Durant discussed his ability to provide dynamic performances whenever his team has needed him in the past: “I know the perception of me is that I can score the basketball well, but any team that I’ve played on, I’ve been asked to do pretty much everything from rebounding to defending to initiating to scoring,” he said.

Irving’s injury was only further compounded by the sluggish play of guard James Harden, who had arguably his worst playoff game ever – the usually impactful superstar converted just once on 10 shots, and missed every three-point attempt he chucked at the basket. Durant was the go-to man down the stretch and was nearly automatic from the floor, dropping 20 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter.

Milwaukee had been red-hot as of late, winning the last two games in the series and jumping out to a massive 17-point lead in Game 5. Durant then willed the Nets to a come-from-behind victory after trailing by 16 at the beginning of the third quarter.

A large storyline will be whether or not Harden can begin contributing and lift some of the scoring burden off the shoulders of Durant. Harden was not even supposed to play in Game 5, but then a series of pre-game workouts quickly changed the prognosis and the bearded superstar took the court. However, it was obvious Harden was still injured, with poor shot form and an inability to drive or juke his way to open looks. Head coach Steve Nash stated that whether Harden plays is being left to the former Rockets star, who will have to decide whether he can turn in a strong performance in a crucial Game 6.

The next game in the series is Thursday in Milwaukee.

It’s late April, meaning some NBA teams are claiming playoff spots, while others are jockeying for position in an extra competitive season. The Brooklyn Nets fall under the former, and have clinched a seed no lower than six. They’re the first Eastern Conference team to do this, and currently in the driver’s seat for the number one overall seed, a game and a half up from the Philadelphia 76ers and three and a half games removed from last season’s one seed, the Milwaukee Bucks.

For the Nets to have gotten to this point is quite impressive. They have a first-year head coach in former MVP Steve Nash, a hire that was criticized by many during the offseason. His lack of experience hasn’t been an issue thus far, but watching how he competes against other great basketball minds in the postseason will be quite fun. Describing their roster as “overhauled” would be putting it lightly. Star Kevin Durant made his debut with the team this season, and they made potentially the trade of the year in acquiring shooting guard James Harden. One might assume the three headed monster of Durant, Harden and point guard Kyrie Irving would lead to total domination, but the trio has played a mere seven games together this year. Players like shooting guard Joe Harris, who’s averaging 14.5 points per game and connecting on a blistering 48% of his triples, have stepped up when one of the stars has been injured.

Clinching a spot in the playoffs is a team accomplishment, and forward Jeff Green is hungry for more. “That’s something we can be proud of, but we also have to realize that that’s not the goal,” he said. “We have to take on the next step, and that’s focusing on what we need to accomplish in the playoffs to get to our ultimate goal.”

With just 10 games remaining in the regular season, and players like Harris and Harden sidelined until the playoffs, one must wonder how good this team could look at full strength. Will the lack of chemistry hurt them or will the raw talent this team possesses lead them to a title? It’ll be fascinating to watch it all come together.

James Harden will not be returning to the court anytime soon.

The Brooklyn Nets issued a statement regarding Harden’s health status on Tuesday. “James Harden experienced a setback while conducting an on-court rehab session on Monday,” the team update said. “Following an evaluation today, which included an MRI, Harden will be out indefinitely.”

“Back to square one,” head coach Steve Nash said Tuesday. “We’ll rehabilitate him and get him back whenever we can, and who knows when that will be. We’ll support James and our performance team in getting him back in as best condition as possible.”

Nash explained more about the All-Star guard’s setback. “[Harden] didn’t fall or stumble or anything out of the ordinary,” Nash said. “He just felt something maybe in the ballpark of a strain. Then the scan revealed he did suffer a setback,” he added. “So not much more to it other than just disappointment and that we have to rebuild and get him going again.”

There is currently no timeline for the return of the star guard. It is another setback for the Nets and the team’s championship hopes. Brooklyn traded for Harden from the Houston Rockets earlier in the season. The arrival of the All-Star guard completed Brooklyn’s big three that consist of Harden, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

While the three All-Stars have made the Nets a powerhouse in the Eastern Conference, they have not been able to stay healthy on the court together. The three of them have played just seven games together. No NBA champions have had their leading scorers miss more than double-digit games.

Harden has missed the last nine games for Brooklyn with a strained right hamstring injury. Fellow teammate Durant has been sidelined with a thigh contusion he suffered on Sunday.

Brooklyn is counting the days until they get back reinforcements.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - DECEMBER 13: Kevin Durant #7 of the Brooklyn Nets dribbles the ball during the second half against the Washington Wizards at Barclays Center on December 13, 2020 in the Brooklyn borough of New York City.

The Brooklyn Nets‘ injury woes continue as All-Star Kevin Durant is sidelined with injury again.

The injury occurred during the Nets’ Sunday loss to the Miami Heat. Durant started the game on fire, scoring eight points to give the team an 8-5 lead. The injury occurred during a play where Durant drove to the basket, and his left leg made contact with Miami’s Trevor Ariza. After the play, Durant was pulled from the game and headed into the locker room.

“Kevin Durant went back to the Nets locker room after suffering an apparent leg injury,” read a tweet from Sports Center. Brooklyn announced that the superstar suffered a thigh contusion and would not come back to play in the game. “Kevin Durant is out for the remainder of the game due to a left thigh contusion,” read the tweet by the Nets’ official account.

After the game, Brooklyn head coach Steve Nash spoke about the All-Star’s injury. “He’s sore, but we don’t know how severe,” Nash said. “We’ll see tomorrow how he wakes up and go from there, but right now nothing’s been determined.”

Durant missed 18 months from a ruptured Achilles he suffered in June of 2019. The All-Star recently missed 23 games due to a left hamstring strain. He returned on April 7, but now he is sidelined once again.

There is no doubt that Durant is feeling frustrated about missing games again for injuries. Fellow Nets teammate Jeff Green spoke about what the star may be feeling. “I know he’s bummed that it’s happened frequently over the last couple of weeks, and he wants to be out there playing,” Green said. “I’m sure he’s going to do whatever he needs to do to get back on the floor.”

Nets superstar point guard Kyrie Irving also talked about his teammate’s injury. “Anytime one of our teammates goes down, anytime something like that happens, it’s definitely going to take a hit for us,” Irving said. “And he’s just gotten back, we just pray that it’s not too serious and he’s able to recover, but it definitely has a hit on our continuity at times.”

The Nets’ big three of Irving, James Harden, and Durant have all experienced injuries this season. Harden is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury. Irving has missed games because of injuries and personal reasons. The big three have only played seven games together, but fans will hope the three will be healthy for the playoffs.

As long as the Nets are fully healthy for the postseason, they have a very good chance at representing the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals.

Brooklyn Nets coach Steve Nash spoke about the shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright. The Nets were scheduled to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night, but the Wright shooting caused the league to postpone the game. The shooting occurred in Minnesota, and riots occurred in response.

The league rescheduled the game for Tuesday night.

Nash was asked about his thoughts about the Wright shooting before the Nets played the Timberwolves. “More senseless tragedy,” Nash said. “Heartbreaking for everyone, I think, I hope, to be in a civilization that behaves this way. I can’t imagine what it’s like to be African-American, to be an African-American parent,” the Hall of Famer told the media. “It’s unacceptable, and it’s devastating to put yourself in their shoes, and it’s devastating just to be a part of it.”

Both the Nets and Timberwolves wore black shirts captioned, “With liberty and justice for all,” during warmups and the national anthem. A moment of silence was held as a picture of Wright with his young child was shown on the Target Center video board.

“It’s the same thing over and over again,” Nash continued. “People are losing their lives for no reason, and it’s been happening for hundreds of years and we’re still here in 2021. So, it’s a tough time,” the head coach said. “A tough time for basketball to be at the forefront but at the same time we have to move forward and take care of our responsibilities amidst such a devastating situation.”

Wright was fatally shot by police after being pulled over for driving with expired license plates. Police then attempted to arrest Wright because they found out that he had an outstanding warrant. A struggle ensued when Wright attempted to re-enter his vehicle. During the struggle, an officer fatally shot Wright as he drove away.

Officer Kimberly A. Potter was revealed to have fired the fatal shot. Brooklyn Center Police Chief Tim Gannon said that Potter intended to fire a taser and not the gun. Both Gannon and Potter resigned from their respective positions.

Ray Allen accused of stalking, fires back

Ray Allen, Jason Kidd and Steve Nash are among the eligible nominees for the 2018 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2018.

2018 Basketball Hall of Fame Nominees

Kidd was a ten-time All-Star who won an NBA title with the Dallas Mavericks in 2010.

Nash, an eight-time All-Star, won back-to-back MVP awards in 2005 and 2006 while playing for the Phoenix Suns. Ten-time All-Star Allen won championships in 2008 with the Boston Celtics and in 2013 with the Miami Heat. Allen is the all-time leader in made three-pointers with 2,973. Allen recently made headlines for claiming he was “catfished,” or stalked online.

Among the other 2018 inductees are seven-time All-Star Chauncey Billups and Grant Hill, another seven-time All-Star who was co-rookie of the year in 1995 and who played 18 seasons in the NBA. While at Duke, he won two national titles and was twice named an All-American.

The Basketball Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday a series of changes to its enshrinement process, the most significant of which will allow players, referees and coaches to be eligible after just three seasons of retirement.

Richard Hamilton, who played alongside Billups on the Detroit Pistons championship team, was selected to three All-Star teams.
