With NFL teams parting ways with their coaches, many have turned to speculation about potential replacements for these struggling franchises.

Baylor coach Matt Rhule has been the subject of NFL coaching jobs for a while now. Last year he interviewed for the head coaching job for the New York Jets, but returned to Baylor for a third season.

Now the Giants and the Panthers seek his expertise. And although he has not turned them down, he has said that he plans on returning to Baylor.

“One thing people don’t realize is coaches, we pick up our families,” Rhule said. “We rip them out of their homes. We rip them out of the places that they are. Sometimes you do that until you get to a point where you find happy. You shouldn’t mess with happy.”

“There’s a lot to accomplish at Baylor,” he added. “And most importantly, it’s just each and every year, I want to put together a championship-caliber team. And I think we have a chance to be even better next year than we are this year… More than money, it’s about the situation for my family.”

He has been straight with his players about his willingness to listen to NFL offers, but is fully invested in the team as they head to their final game of the season.

No. 8 Baylor (11-2) will face No. 5 Georgia (11-2) in the Sugar Bowl with the Bulldogs being a slight favorite.

“It’s certainly a distraction since our guys are answering that instead of talking about the game, which I hate”, Rhule said. “But I was talking to James Lynch yesterday, and like he said, ‘it’s part of my job.’ We want our players to play well, and when they do things like they’ve done…people are gonna take notice.”
