The NFL trade deadline carries the same enormous weight it carries every year. There are selling teams with big names on the market, and buyers who need one last piece to make a Super Bowl run. A handful of contenders have obvious weaknesses that could be addressed before the trade deadline. Which players will be donning a new uniform by the end of the day and who stays the rest of the year on their team?

This year’s trade deadline is Tuesday (Oct. 29) at 4 p.m. EST.

Players like Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey have already been moved, while Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green and Redskins offensive tackle Trent Williams seem poised to stay on their losing teams until the end of the year. However, that could still change with the right offer within a few hours. Teams like the Bengals may be so bad that they have no choice but to trade Green against his wishes.

According to CBS, there is “a sense among aggressive general managers that there are more potential trades to be made this year than possibly ever before.” Aside from the disparity between the good and bad teams this season, NFL front offices have shown a tendency to be active around the deadline over the last couple of seasons.

Last year, nine big-name players — Amari Cooper, Carlos Hyde, Eli Apple, Damon Harrison, Golden Tate, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Dante Fowler, Demaryius Thomas and Ty Montgomery — were traded in the week leading up to the deadline. The year before that, another nine top players — Jimmy Garoppolo, Kelvin Benjamin, Adrian Peterson, Dontrelle Inman, Marcel Dareus, Duane Brown, Jeremy Lane, Rashard Robinson and Jay Ajayi — were traded and six of them were moved on deadline day. Could we see another nine this year?

The closer the deadline gets, the more action happens, so stay tuned to see which players change jerseys right before 4 p.m. EST.

Alabama OT Jonah Williams, Bengals 2019 first-round pick

The Cincinnati Bengals‘ first round pick Jonah Williams, an offensive tackle from Alabama, was injured during practice and will likely miss his first NFL season after getting shoulder surgery, it was announced this week.

The Bengals’ new head coach Zac Taylor, former Los Angeles Rams quarterback coach under Sean McVay, has found a rough first few weeks with his new tenure as multiple Bengals players are out with injuries.

“We look forward to Jonah being a major contributor in the future and know that he won’t let this injury deter him from still being an important part of this team,” Taylor said, according to ESPN. “We’re confident in our offensive line personnel as we head into training camp, and we believe they can do their part in helping this team achieve its goals.”

Williams was selected 11th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft and was a first-team All-American in the 2018 season with Alabama. He missed mandatory OTAs with the Bengals during the early June minicamp because of the injury, but now is confirmed to miss the season after obtaining a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Cordy Glenn, who started for the Bengals at left tackle last season, is set to be in the starting lineup again to replace Williams.

This is a big blow for the Bengals, as it will slow down his development as an NFL tackle significantly, while at the same time, it makes their offensive line weaker than it already was.

The Bengals signed free-agent guard John Jerry earlier this month after not playing under the New York Giants. Jerry could be set at guard for this season, but has also played tackle in the past.

“That’s part of the equation,” Turner said, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “That’s part of the reason he’s here. He’s got a ton of experience. He’s played a lot of football. He’s also played tackle.”

Quarterback Andy Dalton might lack major protection up front this season, and may find it difficult to connect with his high-favored targets in AJ Green, Tyler Eifert and Tyler Boyd.

Cincinnati Bengals receiver A.J. Green followed a disappointing game with a strong one — finishing with 173 yards and a touchdown —to lead his team to a 22-7 home victory over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night.

The Bengals (3-1) bounced back from a 29-17 home loss to the Broncos on Sunday with a powerful game against a worn-out team.

Green led the offense, beating the Dolphins (1-3) on every type of route. During the first three quarters, he recorded 166 yards on catches while Miami had 152 total yards. Cincinnati’s season-long issue of stalling out near the goal line forced the team to settle for Mike Nugent’s season-high five field goals. Green even made an incredible 51-yard catch along the sidelines in the first quarter–after quarterback Andy Dalton found himself scrambling– following the game’s first few stalled offensive possessions. The wideout capped off the drive with a TD reception to put the Bengals up 10-7 early on.

Green also had a 43-yard catch that set up another field goal in the third quarter for a 19-7 lead. He finished with 10 catches.

The Dolphins were missing four starting offensive linemen, two linebackers, running back Arian Foster and tight end Jordan Cameron. Miami had one major play– quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw a 74-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Stills– but couldn’t manage much else offensively.

Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict marked his return with a strong game, leading the Cincinnati defense. The volatile player was suspended by the NFL for the season’s first three games due to his illegal hits. Burfict received a loud ovation from the crowd when he ran onto the field during introductions wearing a baseball cap. He knocked down a pass and recorded three tackles.

The Bengals will next visit the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, Oct. 9, while the Dolphins will host the Tennessee Titans that same day.

A.J. Green, wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals, limped off the field with a right knee injury in the first quarter of his team’s 26-21 preseason loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

Green, 28, was removed from the game as a precaution. He was examined by an athletic trainer and then walked around the sideline, where he stood without his helmet.

Bengals officials stated the injury was not serious and added that if it had been a regular-season game, Green would have returned.

“I just came down on it, banged knees,” Green said at halftime on NBC. “I’m fine. This sucks, because I wanted to play a little bit longer. It’s not serious at all.”

Green’s injury was the second of the night for Cincinnati. Cornerback Adam Jones strained a calf while backpedaling during pre-game warmups and also limped off. He did not play.

Bengals running back and special-teams ace Cedric Peerman then exited the game in the second quarter after breaking his left forearm. He was fitted with an air cast by athletic trainers on the bench.

Green’s injury happened when he was attempting to make a cut near the sideline. The wideout was selected by the Bengals as the fourth overall pick out of Georgia in the 2011 NFL Draft. He has played in five consecutive Pro Bowls.

If Green were to miss any time, that would mean the Bengals would likely have to turn to rookie Tyler Boyd, injured veteran Brandon LaFell, and seldom-used return man Brandon Tate as their top wide receivers.

The Bengals will next host the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night for their final pre-season game before visiting the New York Jets on Sept. 11 for their regular-season opener.

The Jaguars next visit the Atlanta Falcons Thursday night before hosting the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 11 for their regular-season opener.
