AP Top 25 College Football Rankings: Alabama Takes No. 1 Spot, Clemson And Georgia Follow

The AP Top 25 college football rankings were released on Sunday, and Alabama leads the pack with 54 first-place votes.

The Crimson Tide have dominated the standings for several years, and according to CBS Sports are No. 1 on the list for the 106th time. Clemson finished second with six first-place votes and Georgia placed third, while Ohio State and Oklahoma round out the top five.

Florida (25 votes) and South Carolina (24) both dropped out of contention for the rankings. On Saturday, three-time ACC winners Clemson beat Texas A&M 28-26.

Alabama (2-0) followed up its season-opening victory over Louisville with an emphatic 57-7 victory over Arkansas State on Saturday. Georgia is also 2-0 after beating South Carolina 41-17 this weekend.

In total, 12 teams on the top 25 standings are averaging 50 points per contest, according to CBS Sports. Baylor and Florida State both accomplished this all throughout the course of the 2013 season.

Other teams that earned votes included the Aggies, Utah, Houston, Maryland, Boston College, Duke, NC State, Ole Miss and the Seminoles.

Just a few weeks ago, ESPN predicted the Boston College Eagles would finish 8-4 this season and said their head coach Steve Addazio could be named ACC Coach of the Year.
