Former Nebraska Defense Back Rickey Thenarse Shot In L.A. After Dispute With Girlfriend And Her Ex-Boyfriend

Former Nebraska defensive back Rickey Thenarse was shot in Los Angeles after an alleged dispute with his girlfriend and her ex-boyfriend.

It’s unclear how the argument started. His girlfriend had a child with her ex. Some reporters suspect a love triangle, but it has not been confirmed. Regardless, Thenarse was shot in the stomach.

Thenarse received immediate medical attention and is expected to make a full recovery. The emergency surgery on Thenarse’s stomach was a success.

The Los Angeles Police Department reported that a man and a woman were seen leaving the scene. They were seen leaving in a black SUV. No arrests have been made.

Thenarse played for Nebraska from 2006 to 2010. Entering college, he was a four-star prospect. By his second season in 2007, he was already a difference-maker with 28 tackles. Nebraska made a bowl game in four of Thenarse’s five seasons. They won two of those bowl games. In 2008, they won the Gator Bowl against Clemson, and in 2009, they won the Holiday Bowl against Arizona.

Nebraska shut out Arizona 33-0. However, Thenarse wasn’t part of this shutout, since he had a season-ending right knee injury in September. Nebraska recorded 42 tackles in the game. Future New York Giants player Phillip Dillard led the team with seven. Dillard was drafted in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Giants. He recorded four tackles in the 2010 season before being waived.

In 2010, he had 34 tackles and a pick-six. Nebraska lost the Holiday Bowl to Washington.

Despite a strong senior season, Thenarse went undrafted in the 2011 NFL Draft. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks before the preseason. He played three preseason games with the Seahawks before getting cut. He never played a football game after getting cut by the Seahawks.
