XFL Has Had Numerous Bidders To Buy League
Soon after its 2020 season was canceled because of COVID-19, the XFL folded as a league. That doesn’t mean that there isn’t interest in the spring football league however, as it has been reported that the XFL has received numerous offers in regards to purchasing the league so there may be a 2021 season.
League owner and founder Vince McMahon has already come out and said that he would not buy the league back after it went bankrupt, which opened the door for potential buyers.
In speaking with The Athletic, managing partner at Houlihan Lokey, the XFL’s investment bank, Williams Hardie said that this makes sense for the league. “In fact, I understand the Debtor has modeled for 2021 a made-for-TV, 12-week tournament-style approach to its business. Since the XFL is particularly well suited for a crowd-free experience that could thrive in the current environment, given its existing innovations such as in-game audio from players and coaches and live on-screen sports wagering information.”
What the offers the XFL have received are unclear, but it is expected that this process could go through September.
