According to ESPN, the Baltimore Orioles have the third-lowest average attendance in the MLB, averaging 16,758 fans at home games this year. The Orioles’ stadium, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, has a capacity of 45,971, the ninth-biggest stadium in the MLB.

The Orioles have the worst record in the AL East, sitting at 21-53 after losing nine of their last 10 games. Ticket prices are reflecting the team’s performance so far this year, as tickets are as low as $13 for their next home game on June 25 against the San Diego Padres.

The Orioles are currently in a rebuild, as this is their third season in a row with a losing record. Last year, they finished 47-115 and 75-87 the year before. There is a shining light in this Baltimore side, however, as Trey Mancini has had a great start to the season entering the summer. His teammates have advocated for Mancini as he isn’t receiving the national attention his team feels he deserves to be in the All-Star Game coming up on July 9.

“I wish we could look at the percentage of votes that he’s received from our fan base and the percentage of other fan bases,’’ said Orioles first basemen Chris Davis, according to the Baltimore Sun. “Because I feel like Orioles fans are voting for him, but the masses are voting for the Red Sox players, the Yankees players, the bigger-market teams, the more well-known players.”

Mancini currently leads the AL in bases this season with 154, and is second in extra-base hits with 36.

“The fact that he’s having the year that he is and the year that we’re having as a team. … I mean, he’s putting up ridiculous numbers and he’s doing it every night and he’s still not getting any recognition for it,’’ Davis said, according to the Sun. “It’s frustrating for me, so I can’t imagine what he feels.”

Despite the efforts Mancini has put up every night, the Orioles remain one of the more hopeless teams in the MLB this season. It’s important to value young prospects’ development at this time for the Orioles, as the investment in their young players is crucial.
