Journeyman receiver Kamar Aiken has rejoined the Philadelphia Eagles, replacing wideout Markus Wheaton, cut today, according to ESPN.
A key special teamer, Aiken was a first-team member of the unit throughout the duration of Philadelphia’s training camp, and was released as part of the final roster cuts on September 1.
Despite starting one game for the Eagles in the preseason, Aiken had unimpressive performances throughout the summer. A string of drops eventually led to his release, along with an injury suffered before the final two games of exhibition.
Low production was the same story for ex-Steelers wideout Wheaton, who was cut today after a virtual absence from the team’s offense. An $888,000 payout, guaranteed, followed Wheaton out the door after only three snaps with the team (one on special teams). Wheaton was released after the team felt he wasn’t needed on either side of the field.

Both moves were indicative of a thinning receiver presence in Philly, as the loss of Mack Hollins to the Injured Reserve prompted a revitalization at the position.
The events played out fortunately for Wheaton, whose limited services merited him that huge payday.
