Yankees Face Turbulence After Road Trip, Wild Card Lead Down To One

On the heels of the Yankees losing 6 of 9 games on the road, the Oakland Athletics are plotting on usurping the Bombers’ one-game lead in the wild card.

Yankees on track to miss playoffs due to inconsistency

Despite bouncing back against the Mariners in Seattle, losses to the Minnesota Twins have seen the Yankees once decisive lead over the wild card trimmed to one game.

A forgettable trip starting in The Bay began unfavorably for the Yanks, losing the series to the streaking A’s by a run differential of five.

The Yankees were almost no-hit, were blown out, and saw struggles to earn runs throughout their excursion – while the rival A’s saw converse success against the Yanks and the Orioles in Baltimore.

SLIDESHOW: 30 Best Sports Instagrams!

Reliever David Robinson spoke confidently of the critical situation when prompted about the standings.

“We’ve got plenty of time,” he said. “We’ve just got to put some good innings, good at-bats together and pick up some wins.”

Injuries, inconsistencies, and identity have plagued the Yankees recently, which makes the time Robinson speaks about more precious than it’s ever been this season.

When big additions like Giancarlo Stanton underperform, (.105, 4-for-38 and no homers since Sept. 1) the rest of the team follows: the team has collectively hit an abysmal .194 average and a .641 OPS on the same stretch.

Superstar slugger Aaron Judge, disabled since July 27, could surely resurge the club’s offense if he returns in time for the playoffs – if they make it. In his absence, the team has gone 25-20, after a red-hot campaign in the first half of the season.

The time continues to tick for the stumbling Yanks, though they hope to slow it up tomorrow at home against the Toronto Blue Jays. Manager Aaron Boone is sure this is an adversity the team can handle.

”We’re clearly facing a little bit of adversity right now, and we’ll embrace it,“ he said. “We’ll be better for it.”
