Ohio State QB Transfer Tate Martell Chooses Miami Over Louisville

The Miami Hurricanes landed a big name on Tuesday: Ohio State quarterback Tate Martell announced he would join the team.

Martell Also Weighed Offer From West Virginia

Martell, who joined the Buckeyes in 2017 as a four-star recruit, was reportedly also mulling offers from Louisville and West Virginia. The Cardinals have been actively seeking a QB since hiring coach Scott Satterfield in December.

Martell redshirted in 2017 behind J.T. Barrett and compiled 269 passing yards as a backup to Dwayne Haskins last year.

Haskins recently announced he will declare for the 2019 NFL Draft. Given this, Ohio State signed five-star QB transfer Justin Fieldsthe top overall recruit in the class of 2018. Fields previously played at Georgia.

Martell, who will be 21 on Jan. 26, seemed utterly excited to join Miami, as he showed in a Twitter post on Wednesday.

“right back like we never left… I’M A HURRICANE!” Martell wrote, adding emojis of a palm tree and raised hands.

In other college football news, it was announced on Wednesday that Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts will transfer to Oklahoma for his senior year.

Hurts revealed his big move in an article on The Players’ Tribune. He is eligible to play immediately because he is a graduate transfer.

Among the other schools Hurts visited were Maryland and Miami. The QB also received interest from Auburn, Utah, Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida State and UCLA. Hurts was a starter for the Crimson Tide and went 26-2 before Tua Tagovailoa replaced him this year. Alabama, the nation’s top-ranked team, lost to No. 2 Clemson in last week’s College Football Playoff national championship game.

Hurt also won an SEC Offensive Player of the Year award during his first two seasons with Alabama. In that stretch, he recorded 4,861 yards, 40 touchdowns and ten interceptions, as well as 21 rushing touchdowns.

Oklahoma has boasted many Heisman Trophy-winning transfer quarterbacks in recent years, like Kyler Murray and Cleveland Browns signal-caller Baker Mayfield
