No Teams Have Shown Interest In Signing Colin Kaepernick After NFL Workout

Colin Kaepernick‘s November 16 workout has seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. None of the 32 league organizations have contacted him to explore a potential contract. His representatives have sent video to 25 teams, but to no avail. The original workout, which was put together by the league to take place at the Atlanta Falcons practice facility, was ditched by Kaepernick. His representatives held their own event some 60 miles away.

30 SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2018 – TRIBUTE SLIDESHOW

Kaepernick became a controversial figure after he sparked protests and a nationwide debate by kneeling during the national anthem in a effort to bring awareness to police brutality and racial injustice. After filing a collusion grievance against the NFL owners, the league settled with him in February. Kaepernick has been out of the league since 2016, but has said that he has been training and working to get back in the league. His NFL career saw a 28-30 record with 72 touchdown passes, as well as seven rushing touchdowns. He led the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII in 2013, but lost to the Baltimore Ravens with a final score of 34-31.

Issues with the November 16 workout arose when Kaepernick and his side began to question the timing and motivation of the league. Their stance was that the NFL cared more about creating an impression for the public than it was for giving Kaepernick a legitimate shot. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he felt it right to give Kaepernick a showcase and that teams were interested in him.

Certainly, other issues came into play. The workout was closed to the media, even though Kaepernick and his team wanted to ensure transparency and have it open to the public. Kaepernick wanted a list of committed teams provided before the workout which the league declined to share. The issues of which receivers he would throw to and the order of the practice were brought up, which the league addressed.

It seems this circus was designed to have Kaepernick show his skills, but with neither side giving into the other’s demands, Kaepernick and his reps now face the situation where no team has contacted him — and may never.
