NBA & NBPA To Paint ‘Black Lives Matter’ On Court During Season Restart

When it was announced that the NBA would be resuming its season at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, one of the biggest issues among some players was that if they enter the bubble community, they would be unable to participate in social justice movements that have popped up across the United States over the course of the last month.

Now, the league is considering painting “Black Lives Matter” on the court in Orlando for the season’s resumption. The league has also been toying with the idea of allowing players to instead have their last names on the back of their jerseys, have messages pertaining to social justice in that spot.

The NBA and NBPA have been discussing ways that they can use the platform that they have to make a stance on racial injustice as there have been numerous incidents in recent weeks where law enforcement officials have killed unarmed minorities such as George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

In the wake of Floyd’s death on May 25, numerous NBA players partook in protests in various cities across the U.S. to show their support for these movements.
