RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - AUGUST 07: Novak Djokovic of Serbia plays a forehand against Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina in their singles match on Day 2 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Olympic Tennis Centre on August 7, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic and his wife, Jelena Djokovic, got some good news Thursday as both announced that they have tested negative for COVID-19. Djokovic contracted the virus 10 days ago while playing an exhibition tennis organized by himself in Croatia and Serbia.
No social distancing guidelines were followed during the matches that Djokovic organized even with players coming from all over the world to play. It also seemed Djokovic wasn’t interested in taking precautions off the court either, as videos surfaced of he and other tennis stars partying at a Serbian nightclub. One of Djokovic’s companions at the club, Grigor Dimitrov, tested positive for COVID-19 just days after the videos were released.
Djokovic organized the tournament when virus cases had been reduced in Europe, which lead him to believe that it was safe to play. “Unfortunately, this virus is still present, and it is a new reality that we are still learning to cope and live with,” said Djokovic.
Since Djokovic and his wife tested positive, they went into self-isolation in Croatia while showing no symptoms. His coach, Goran Ivanisevic, previously had COVID-19 as well.

The next big tennis tournament is the US Open in New York, which has put in major precautions including frequent testing, no fans and limiting the number of people allowed in the club.
Before his positive test, Djokovic spoke out on these measures.
“We could bring one person to the club, which is really impossible,” he said. “I mean, you need your coach then a fitness trainer, then a physiotherapist.”
