Junior Boxer Isis Kio, 19, Wakes Up From Coma After Being KO-ed

Junior boxer Isis Kio has woken up from a medically induced coma.

Kio was KO-ed by Jocelyn Camarillo during a ProBox TV event. She was placed on a stretcher, where she was seen shaking uncontrollably. She was immediately taken to a hospital where she was placed in a medically induced coma.

Camarillo commented on Instagram, wishing her fellow boxer the best.

“Nothing but respect. Keeping her in my prayers and wishing her healing and a full recovery,” Camarillo said

ProBox TV released a statement saying that Kio had awakened from her coma. They also said that she was able to breathe on her own, compared to before, when she required a ventilator.

During a medically induced coma, patients are given specialized medications. The medical staff gradually takes them off the medications to “wake” the patient as their brain stabilizes. Medically induced comas can help with brain swelling, oxygen deprivation, seizures, pain management and internal bleeding.

Most people are woken up from medically induced comas within 24 hours. Kio healed well from her injuries and was able to be woken up quickly. Some medically induced comas last for up to 72 hours.

Kio is a 19-year-old boxer from North Dakota. She is classified as a light featherweight, one of the lowest weight classes in boxing, generally only behind the strawweight class, depending on the league.

This is ProBox TV’s second-straight week in Long Beach. The main event will be between Bryan Acosta and Ronny Rios.

After their Long Beach series, ProBox TV will be heading across the country for events in New Jersey. They will be at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on April 10 and Atlantic City, New Jersey, on April 11.
