Kevin Love, who is still rehabbing his injured shoulder, has decided to opt out of his fourth-year and will test free agency, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are in for an interesting offseason, as there is the possibility that ten of their players will be free agents. At the beginning of the week, they were waiting on three important decisions. Kevin Love had until Friday, J.R. Smith has until today — with previous reports claiming he will — and LeBron James has until Monday to opt out of their contracts.
Obviously, Cleveland’s number one priority will be re-signing James when he likely opts out, but Kevin Love has to be a close second. By Love opting out of his contract, he is forgoing $16.7 million for 2015-16 and $17.6 million for the 2016-17 season. Now, there will be several teams in the running, with Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics and Portland Trail Blazers very interested, according to ESPN. So the Cavs will certainly have competition.

Despite having a very bumpy year in Cleveland — 16.4 PPG and 9.7 RPG were his lowest numbers since entering the league — Love is still a premiere talent. However, his commitment to the Cavs was constantly being questioned last year, with many people claiming that LeBron and Love did not have the best relationship. Who can forget LeBron James’ cryptic tweet during the season?
Still, when asked if he wanted to remain in Cleveland, he has said yes on several occasions. On June 5, Love responded to a question about returning by stating, “Yes, I want to win.” But at the moment, it is all about how much the Cavs are willing to pay him.
So as previously mentioned, it is going to be an interesting offseason for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
