FSU’s Norvell Apologizes For Lying After He Gets Called Out By One Of His Players

Florida State University’s head football coach Mike Norvell earlier this week said that he had spoken with every single player individually on his team regarding the death of George Floyd and the nationwide protests. “That was something that was important to me because this is a heartbreaking time in our country,” he said. “We’re trying to meet our guys at their need and be able to share some of the emotions that we’re all going through.”

Unfortunately for Norvell however, his players have access to social media and disputed their coach’s comments. One Florida State player, Marvin Wilson, called out Norvell for this in a post on Twitter Thursday morning. 

On Thursday afternoon, Norvell issued a statement on Twitter, apologizing for his lie. “It was a mistake to use the word ‘every.’ Particularly at this time, words are important, and I’m sorry.”

Norvell went on to say that the team held a meeting on Thursday to talk about the situation, and he apologized once again to the team, thanking Wilson “for encouraging me to use my platform and speak for what me and my teammates believe in.”

Norvell will coach his first season at Florida State this year after spending the last four seasons at the University of Memphis.
