Eagles Re-Sign Breakout Star LB Zack Baun For 3 Years, $51 Million – Is It A Bargain?
One year ago, linebacker Zack Baun signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles worth $3.5 million. He had become a free agent after four seasons with his draft team, the New Orleans Saints, where he had played mostly on special teams.
Last week, the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles announced a new deal for Baun: three years, $51 million. The $34 million in guaranteed money makes him the fourth-highest paid linebacker in the league, and it might be a bargain.

Following a move from outside to inside linebacker in Philadelphia, Baun earned first team All-Pro honors in 2024, finished fifth in Defensive Player of the Year voting, and led the Eagles with 151 tackles. He recorded 3.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and one interception in the regular season, and had a takeaway in every postseason game, including an interception in the Super Bowl. In short, he’s been elite.

The risk with Baun is the lack of a real track record for his success beyond last season. But, at 28, under the same productive Eagles coaching, it seems a fair bet that the deal will hold up.
The move came alongside another notable re-signing, as Saquon Barkley agreed to a two-year contract extension. In short, the Eagles seem focused on locking in their key pieces in pursuit of another Super Bowl run.
Meanwhile, several other names on the Eagles are heading to free agency, including Josh Sweat and Milton Williams – both vital pieces of the defensive line that shredded the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, producing six total sacks. It’ll be interesting to see how many of those players Philadelphia can retain.
In the quest for another Super Bowl, though, re-signing Baun isn’t nothing, especially if his ascent to stardom continues.
