A man has been arrested with accusations of throwing a beer can at another man in Boston during the Red Sox World Series parade on Wednesday.
Patrick Connolly, of Sandwich, Massachusetts, was charged with disorderly conduct and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (the beer can!). The beer can struck a man aboard one of the celebratory duck boats, which carried players and their families amidst thousands of fans in the streets of Boston.
A video emerged of a beer can striking Red Sox manager Alex Cora, and multiple others almost striking outfielder Mookie Betts. The two were never injured, and the parade went on without hesitation.
Another beer struck the Sox’s championship trophy that was on display, and it was damaged in the process. Gold pennants that stemmed from the base of the trophy were dislodged from the trophy. It has since been repaired.

“This definitely has got to stop,” Betts told the Boston Globe. He was seen catching several cans of beer, swatting some, all while in the company of his family. Betts was among several players that had beer cans flung in their directions, including pitchers David Price and Craig Kimbrel. Cora’s daughter was also hit, along with the wife of Jason Varitek and a team photgrapher.
Though it may have been something of a tradition for Boston sports teams to share beers with the winning teams, it has certainly resulted in legal repercussions for several fans. Boston Police commissioner William Gross said there were five other arrests from the parade, including a 17-year-old charged with illegal firearm and drug possession.
