Could Floyd Mayweather Come Out Of Retirement One More Time? Who Will He Fight?
Floyd “Money” Mayweather has fight fans, and the world, swarming to find out what his cryptic Instagram post meant. Suggesting he may come out of retirement in 2020, fight fans are in overdrive thinking of who a possible opponent could be. The post hinted that he and UFC President Dana White would possibly be working together to set up an event in 2020.
Mayweather has had quite the impressive career, holding a perfect 50-0 record. He has held multiple world titles in five weight classes and is a six-time winner of the Best Fighter ESPY Award (2007-2010, 2012-2014). As an amateur, Mayweather won a bronze medal in the featherweight division at the 1996 Olympics and has three U.S. Golden Gloves championships. Known for his love of money and big personality, he is the face of fighting.
His last fight was against UFC superstar Conor McGregor who gave him a ten round fight and a big pay check. Before the bell rung, Mayweather was guaranteed $100 million and McGregor guaranteed $30 million. In 2015, the world saw a megafight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. This fight proved to be the highest-grossing pay-per-view event in history, breaking $410 million in revenue.
As of late, Mayweather has been traveling and doing exhibitions, making around $10-$30 million, he says. But the world wants to know if Mayweather will be making a return to the big stage. Possible opponents have been floated out by fight fans, one being Khabib Nurmagomedov, who currently sits at 30-0. Nurmagomedov has said that he believes defeating Georges St-Pierre and Mayweather would make him the greatest fighter of all time. Others have said Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who Mayweather beat on points back in 2013, could be the possible opponent. But many are hoping for a repeat Mayweather-Paquiao fight, especially since Paquiao has continually expressed his desire for it. Mayweather may be doing this as an elaborate stunt to get some buzz, or maybe we’ll see the king return from retirement and into the ring.
