After February’s announcement that the Green Bay Packers will retire Brett Favre’s number and induct him into the Packers Hall of Fame, today the supposed date for the celebration leaked.

While the Hall of Fame induction will happen on July 18, he will allegedly be honored during the Packers’ Thanksgiving game against the Chicago Bears, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

This will be the first time the Packers have played a home game on Thanksgiving since 1923. ESPN was the first to break the story about the supposed time of the Packers and Bears game.

Back in February, when Favre himself made the announcement about the festivities, he released a statement expressing his excitement.

“I’m pleased to announce that I will be returning to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2015 for induction into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame and retirement of my jersey,” Favre wrote in his statement. “It was a tremendous honor to play 16 years for the Green Bay Packers. Now to have my name placed among others such as Starr, Hornung, Kramer, Taylor, Lambeau, Nitschke, Lombardi, Davis, White and Hutson is a special honor that I share with all of my teammates and coaches, and that would not have been possible but for the foresight of Ron Wolf, the greatest GM In the history of the NFL.”

Brett Favre is honestly one of the greatest to ever put on the Packer uniform. The QB is ranked second all-time in passing touchdowns (508) and is first in passing yards (71,838). He is also a Super Bowl champion (XXXI), an eleven-time pro bowler and a three-time NFL MVP.

Frankly, this ceremony took too long to happen. Both parties were still sore after Favre’s departure in 2008: the Packers decided to cut ties with the legendary QB and moved onto Aaron Rodgers. And after a disappointing season with the Jets, Favre went to play for the Packers’ division rivals, aka the Minnesota Vikings, before retiring in 2010.

But it was only a matter of time before both parties buried the hatchet. And it is exciting to see one of the greatest QBs of all-time being honored by one of the greatest franchises of all-time.
