The St. Louis Blues were not the only big winners on Wednesday night. Blues fan Scott Berry won $100,000 on a $400 bet that he made on the Blues to win the Stanley Cup back in January.

At the time of the bet, the odds of the Blues winning the Stanley Cup seemed nothing if not a giant long shot. Entering January, the Blues stood with a record of 15-18-4 on the season, giving the Blues 250-1 odds to win the Stanley Cup. For most betters, it would seem like a foolish bet to think a team like the Blues could muster up getting a playoff spot in the always highly competitive Western Conference, let alone think that they have a chance to lift Lord Stanley’s Cup in June. The Blues, sitting in the last place in the Western Conference standings, looked like a team ready to hit the golf course come summertime. Berry though, as most sports fans do, showed unrelenting and maybe even emotional faith. That faith is about to pay off big time.

“You know it’s so funny, it’s like I never in a million years thought I would be watching a game where I either am a $100,000 victor or I’m walking away with my tail between my legs. But, I’ve got all faith in these guys, I still think they’re gonna do it, they’re a better road team so tonight’s gonna be an emotional roller coaster. You’ll probably see me in tears either way,” Berry said before the Blues’ Game seven’s victory over the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup Finals.

“I feel like I’m in this with the team, and I don’t want to lay any of it off,” Berry told ESPN this week. “I put the bet down in January for $400 to win $100,000. That was the bet. … I’m very superstitious and don’t want to ruin any juju.”
