The Atlanta Braves are 15 games under .500, and in fourth place in the NL East.
Atlanta finished the 2024 season with a record of 89-73, making the postseason but losing in the wild-card round to the San Diego Padres.
The Braves had a quiet offseason, making little moves. Atlanta lost two starting pitchers as Max Fried signed with the New York Yankees after eight seasons in Atlanta, and Charlie Morton signed with the Baltimore Orioles.
The big move was signing Jurickson Profar to a three-year $42 million contract. Profar was coming off a career year with the Padres, but he received a suspension in late March because he tested positive for banned substances.

Profar’s suspension includes 80 games without pay, and he will be ineligible for the 2025 postseason if his team advances.
Atlanta’s offense has struggled with consistency throughout its 2025 campaign, led by Ronald Acuna Jr., Austin Riley, and Matt Olson.
The Braves are in the top three for drawing walks, but are in the bottom 10 for batting average, runs scored, and strikeouts. The Braves are also in the bottom half of the league for slugging percentage.
The pitching has also been inconsistent, led by Chris Sale, Spencer Schwellenbach and Spencer Strider.
Atlanta is in the top five for strikeouts and the top 10 for batting average allowed. But Atlanta is in the bottom half of the league for ERA, walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP), and home runs allowed.
Injuries have been a big reason for the pitching inconsistencies.
Atlanta’s starting rotation on opening day included Sale, Schwellenbach, Reynaldo Lopez, AJ Smith-Shawver and Grant Holmes. All five pitchers are currently on the 60-day injured list.
The injuries have forced Atlanta to make moves in the pitching department. Atlanta traded for Carlos Carrasco from the New York Yankees and acquired Eric Fedde after the St. Louis Cardinals designated him for assignment.
The Braves are 12 games back from a wild-card spot, and it would take a second-half miracle to make the postseason.
Atlanta is a long shot to make the postseason, with odds of +1500. Its odds of making the World Series are +50000, and its odds of winning the World Series are +50000.
