Michael Jordan’s Final Game Bulls Jersey Hits Record At Auction

Michael Jordan scored 44 points against the New York Knicks in his final regular-season home game with the Chicago Bulls on April 18, 1998. Jordan and the Bulls defeated the Knicks 111-109 that day. On Sunday, the jersey Jordan wore during that game sold at an auction for $173,240. According to ESPN, this amount marks the highest price paid for a Jordan collectible at auction, even exceeding Jordan’s “flu game” shoes, which sold last year for $104,765.

Jersey authenticator MeiGray confirmed that the No. 23 jersey indeed matched the jersey worn by the superstar in his last regular-season home game with the Bulls. “No one who has been out of the game fewer than 15 years has had items sell for these kinds of prices,” said Ken Goldin of Goldin Auctions, which sold the jersey along with a pair of game-worn shoes from the 1996 NBA Finals for $34,160. “Michael Jordan is the collectible equivalent of Babe Ruth.”

Other high-valued items sold in the auction included Keith Hernandez‘s personal 1986 World Series trophy ($51,240), a 1998 Derek Jeter batting helmet ($8,540), a pair of the late basketball player Moses Malone’s signed game-used goggles ($5,795), and former football running back Lawrence Phillips‘ 1995 Nebraska NCAA title ring ($3,660).
