Russell Wilson Interviews For NC State Head Coaching Job
After retiring from the NFL earlier this year, former QB Russell Wilson has reportedly interviewed for the vacant head coaching job at North Carolina State.
The two-time Super Bowl champion joined NFL Today on CBS after retiring, but that stint might be short-lived if he gets and chooses to take the job opening at NC State.
Wilson’s career declined after he left the Seattle Seahawks, where he spent most of his career, and he didn’t quite live up to the same level with the Denver Broncos before he was eventually released. He then spent the final few years of his career trying for a resurgence with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants, but it never panned out.
He isn’t the first former NFL player and NC State QB to be a candidate for the job, as Phillip Rivers is also considered a top choice after his surprise return to the league last year at age 44.

Wilson played three years as a multi-sport athlete at NC State, playing baseball and football and was drafted by the Oakland Athletics to play baseball before choosing football. The QB transferred to Wisconsin for his final year.
It is not unheard of for NFL stars to return to college to coach. A few are currently in the NCAA, most famously Deion Sanders, who coaches Colorado; Hines Ward, a WR coach at Arizona State; and DeSean Jackson, the head coach at Delaware State.
