Rory McIlroy Edges Brooks Koepka To Win Second FedExCup Trophy [VIDEO]

Rory McIlroy took home a historic $15 million dollar purse on Sunday by winning the FexExCup and thus became the only other golfer besides Tiger Woods to win it twice.

McIlroy, paired with Brooks Koepka for the better part of August, was down by one stroke going into the seventh hole, where McIlroy’s putting matched his impressive distance game. The Irishman shot minus-4 for a 66 in his final round, while Koepka double-bogeyed the seventh and went on to bogey the No. 12, 13 and 14 holes as well, thus ending at T3 for the tournament. Rory birdied six holes and bogeyed twice.

With the win, McIlroy jumped back to No. 2 in the world rankings, a position he held more than two years ago at the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills.

Xander Schauffele came from behind to score his highest ranking at the FexExCup and his fourth second-place finish. He also arguably had the best shot of the night with an ace on the 9th.

After the shocking news that the total prize money for the FexExCup would be $45 million in 2018, the PGA announced last September that the prize money for this year would rise to a historic $70 million. With the split, second-place finisher Schauffele took home $5 million, while Koepka took home $3.5 million.
