Yankees & Red Sox Set Up For First Ever MLB Game In Europe

For the first time ever, America’s pastime will fly across the pond to Europe this weekend, bringing alongside it perhaps the game’s most intriguing talents such as Aaron Judge, Mookie Betts, Gary Sanchez and Chris Sale. European baseball fans now await a legitimate chance to experience the game at its peak level, as the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will add another page to the sport’s most storied rivalry.

Although the Yankees and Red Sox know each other very well, both squads remain estranged to the less–utilized European stadium poised to host the AL East rivals during this upcoming two–game series. Famously constructed to house the 2012 London Summer Olympics and soccer matches, London Stadium continues to undergo its transitions into a baseball–ready venue as the Yankees and Red Sox prepare simultaneously. With the MLB continuing to update fans on the project, the setting appears just a few steps away from completion.

The MLB intends to set up the diamond within the soccer field’s center area, all together encapsulating at total 140,000 square feet. The stadium poises to generally mirror most ballparks throughout the league, however, its dimensions measure out just a tad smaller than usual with the center-field wall extending 385 feet, while the foul lines stretch out to 330 feet. London Stadium also adds a unique 16–foot wall at center field, which will certainly warrant adjustments for each club’s outfielders. The makeshift ballpark’s most intriguing feature exists outside the poles, however, as the foul territory extends far beyond most stadiums’ limits, issuing extra real–estate for fielders to make plays.

SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2019- TRIBUTE SLIDESHOW

While still remaining alive within the playoff mix, the Red Sox drudge on a somewhat disappointing season ahead their abroad matchup against the Yankees. The Red Sox currently sit behind both New York and Tampa Bay in a talented AL East. Meanwhile, the Yankees continue their potential World Series surge, winning nine out of their last ten games while defeating other contenders such as the Houston Astros and Tampa Bay Rays. Head to head, the Yankees hold the advantage as well, as New York has won four out of five games thus far.

Judging the game from our time zone, this pioneer series will kick off as Masahiro Tanaka and Rick Porcello ascend to the hill Saturday at 1:10 p.m. EST on FOX.
