The Miami Dolphins cut quarterback Mark Gronowski over the weekend in a series of changes within their quarterback room. This follows their recent trade of Quinn Ewers, the addition of former Packers backup Malik Willis, and signing him to a massive $67.5 million contract.
The move comes after he played for the Dolphins this preseason and finished with 98 yards.
These were not the only moves that the Dolphins made this weekend, as they also waived another QB, in Cam Miller.
This left the Dolphins focused on finding a number two quarterback to back up Willis.

The Dolphins have a history of their starting quarterback being injured late in the season; their most recent starter, Tua Tagovailoa, was injured in almost every season he played. Their two previous franchise QBs, Ryan Tannehill and Ryan Fitzpatrick, both got injured in their most promising year at the helm right before the playoffs. The backup was forced to start the playoffs in both those years.
Reports say Kyle McCord is that guy and is headed to Miami. McCord was on the Packers, the same team that Willis came from.
The Dolphins’ moves this weekend totaled two waivings, one trade, and one pickup, making it one of the more hectic rebrands in a QB room we have seen in a long time.
The Dolphins open up their season against the Las Vegas Raiders in two Sundays. The matchup pits two quarterbacks playing in their first game in these uniforms. Willis has been named the week one starter for the Dolphins. The Raiders will likely start Kirk Cousins, who signed in the spring, but if not, it will be rookie Fernando Mendoza.
