This will be the opener of a three-game series. The Yankees (83-47, .638) are coming off a sweep of the Baltimore Orioles, including a 5-3 win on Sunday. New York, which is six games behind Boston (90-42, .682) for second in the AL East, has also won eight of nine contests.
The White Sox (51-79, .392) are coming off three straight victories over Detroit.
Masahiro Tanaka (9-4, 3.90 ERA) will likely start for the Yankees against left-hander Carlos Rodon (5-3, 2.71 ERA). Tanaka boasts 121 strikeouts this season, while Rodon has struck out 69 batters.
