Team USA bobsledder Hunter Church will be making his Olympic debut during the Beijing Olympic Games.
Shortly before the games began Church had a weightlifting incident that almost caused him to lose one of his toes.
“I was doing a hex bar deadlift and upon finishing the set the bar bounced in a very unfortunate way where it actually smashed my distal phalanx, my left big toe, and ultimately I had to go in for immediate surgery that night,” he said. “Our team doctor, Dr. Byrne, had to wire and pin my big toe back together.”
Due to the incident, Church was not able to go to Beijing to see the track that he would be competing on, but he is not afraid to compete on unfamiliar territory and is confident in his ability to perform well.
