Twins’ Jose Miranda Demoted To Triple-A Following Embarrassing Baserunning Mistake

The Minnesota Twins have optioned third baseman Jose Miranda to their Triple-A affiliate, St. Paul, following a baserunning gaffe.

Miranda, who was ruled safe after getting to second base, decided to walk back to the dugout, assuming he had been called out. Miranda was tagged out after eventually realizing he was ruled safe.

There was a clear lack of awareness from Miranda on the play.

“Jose has to do better on that play,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli told The Athletic. “We have to be paying attention and never allow something like that to happen.”

Miranda has started the season batting .167, with one home run and five RBIs.

The Twins are 5-11 and have won just three of their last ten games. The Twins entered the season with a 55.5% chance to make the playoffs, and were predicted to win the AL Central according to FanGraphs.

The team currently sits in fourth place in the division, with playoff odds dropped down to 34.1%.

The specific reason for Miranda’s demotion is not clear, but whether it’s because of this egregious blunder or solely because of his performance this season, both Miranda and the Twins are going in the wrong direction.
