Arguably, the greatest quarterback in NFL history is hesitant to say he is fully retired from professional football.

Former NFL quarterback Tom Brady sent social media and the sports world into a tailspin due to comments on the DeepCuts with VicBlends podcast regarding a possible return to playing in the NFL.

“Let’s say one day, there’s a situation, right?” Vic Blends asked Brady. “Maybe it’s the 49ers, maybe headed to the playoffs, offense is great.”

Brady said, “Patriots, could be Raiders, could be – you never know.”

Tom Brady not opposed to making a return to the league? 😳 pic.twitter.com/HEPLY0cTgJ

The seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback already has a connection with the Las Vegas Raiders. His ownership group, which includes Knighthead Capital co-founder Tom Wagner, has a 10% stake in the team. Brady individually has approximately 7% of that stake.

The Raiders also have not solidified their starting quarterback for the 2024 season, opening a window for team owner Mark Davis, who is close with Brady, to lure the all-time great from retirement and back on the gridiron.

Brady played for the New England Patriots for nearly 20 years. He is still beloved in the Boston area, and since the team is in a full-on rebuild at almost every position, bringing back Brady if he was willing to play again would surely be a surreal site for fans.

The famed quarterback elaborated on a potential return to playing football, comparing his situation to that of NBA great Michael Jordan. Jordan quit basketball in October 1993 but then unretired in March 1995 to win another three world championships with the Chicago Bulls. “To come in for a little bit like MJ, coming back, I don’t know if they would let me, but I wouldn’t be opposed to it,” Brady said.

Whether Brady ever plays for an NFL team again, his public statements over the past week certainly have the football world paying attention—and wondering if arguably the greatest player to ever play the sport will make a shocking return.
