Tampa Bay Buccaneers Re-Sign WR Antonio Brown To One-Year Deal

Antonio Brown will be returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a one-year deal.

Brown’s agent revealed the news to NFL Network about the wide receiver re-signing with the team.

The contract guarantees the wide receiver $3.1 million, $2 million in a signing bonus. In total, the receiver could make up to $6.25 million from his one-year deal.

Last season, the Pro Bowler signed with the Bucs before their Week 9 matchup with the New Orleans Saints. The Pro Bowler was serving an eight-week suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. So, the wide receiver did not play until he signed with the Bucs.

Brown has had a history of misbehavior in the past. Recently, he resolved a sexual assault civil lawsuit with the victim. Brown was traded from the Pittsburgh Steelers to the Las Vegas Raiders in 2018 but never played a regular-season game. The receiver then signed with the New England Patriots in 2019 but was cut from the team in the offseason.

Tom Brady convinced Brown to sign with the Bucs last season. Brady was very interested in having the receiver on the team for their Super Bowl quest. Brown caught 45 passes for 483 yards and four touchdowns in his eight games with the team. The receiver recorded two postseason touchdowns, including one in their Super Bowl win.

To have enough cap space for Brown to return, the Bucs had to agree to a contract restructure with tight end Cameron Brate. Brate’s newly restructured contract has his next season salary drop to $1.075 million, and he gets a $2.425 million signing bonus. With Brown returning, Tampa Bay has all of its important roster pieces to make another Super Bowl run.
