Steph Curry’s Ankle Injury May Hurt Warriors

Stephen Curry twisted his ankle during game one of the Golden State Warriors’ playoff series against the Houston Rockets, and it seems like there is some concern for him going forward.

Steph Curry’s Ankle Injury May Hurt Warriors

After rolling his right ankle during the first half of the Warriors’ 104-78 victory over the Rockets at Oracle Arena on Saturday, the 28-year-old guard headed to the locker room several times to get it re-taped. Curry played just 20 minutes, nearly all of them in the first half. Although he was cleared to return, he didn’t play after the 8:31 mark of the third quarter. Warriors coach Steve Kerr stated that this wasn’t simply because the game was a blowout by that point.

“He’s questionable. He didn’t practice today. He’s getting treatment. We’ll have an update tomorrow,” Kerr stated.

“He’s doing a little better than yesterday. Again, he’ll get treatment today, get some rest, get off his feet, and do the same thing tomorrow at shootaround and see how he’s feeling.”

Kerr also added, regarding how the team would adjust given the circumstances, that the Warriors don’t seem to have as good a coaching staff when Curry goes out. He also stated that Shaun Livingston would replace Curry if necessary.

The Warriors went 2-1 in the three games Curry missed during the regular season: a 114-91 loss to Dallas on Dec. 30, a 114-110 win over the Rockets on Dec. 31 and a 109-105 win over the Hawks on March 1.

Although Golden State may be the heavy favorite to win the NBA Championship this year, this remains cause for worry. The Warriors likely need Curry to be healthy if they want to get past the San Antonio Spurs.

Curry’s right ankle has previously been surgically repaired and caused him many problems earlier in his career. At this point, the Warriors may be able to survive without him for a game or two, but any absence longer than that would likely cause them problems, particularly as they venture further into the playoffs.

Game 2 of the Warriors-Rockets series will take place on Monday night.
