Red Sox Become Quickest MLB Team To Reach 100 Wins Since 2001 With 1-0 Victory Vs. Blue Jays

The Boston Red Sox (100-46) made history at Fenway Park on Wednesday night by becoming the quickest team in Major League Baseball to win 100 games since 2001.

Boston Red Sox Win 100th Game At Fenway Park

The squad — which is also the first MLB franchise this year to secure a playoff spot — accomplished the feat with a 1-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays, their 146th contest of the season. The previous team to attain the 100-win mark is the Seattle Mariners, who in 2001 notched their 100th triumph after 140 games. Seattle also earned an MLB-high 116 games that year.

The last time the Red Sox won 100 or more games in one campaign was in 1946, when they finished 104-50 and eventually fell to the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. Boston manager Alex Cora said he was thrilled about his team’s achievement, but noted the Red Sox have many more objectives this year and in the coming years.
