Raptors Waive Former No. 1 Overall Pick Anthony Bennett
Former University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) forward Anthony Bennett was the top overall pick in the NBA Draft less than a year ago. Now, Bennett has fallen hard and fast, having just been let go by his third NBA team.
Raptors Waive Former No. 1 Overall Pick Anthony Bennett
According to a report by Shams Charania of The Vertical on Monday, the Canadian forward has been waived by the Toronto Raptors to create space for veteran forward Jason Thompson.
Bennett, 22, only managed to earn 1.5 points, 1.2 rebounds and played just 4.4 minutes per game over 19 appearances this season with the Raptors.
Bennett was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2013 NBA Draft, but there he suffered a long string of injuries, conditioning issues and general ineffectiveness before he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves as part of the Andrew Wiggins-for-Kevin Love deal.

The forward didn’t fare much better with the Timberwolves, playing in just 57 games before being bought out in late 2015.
Charania reports that the Phoenix Suns might look into Bennett after he clears waivers. However, Bennett could be seeing the last days of his NBA career soon if he ultimately can’t find that ideal scenario.
