Perhaps it’s a move to assist Jimmy Garoppolo on defense through the first four games of the season, but the New England Patriots have recently traded offensive lineman Jordan Devey for San Francisco tight end, Asante Cleveland.
Last year, Devey was under heavy scrutiny of both fans and management after his failed attempts at protecting Tom Brady from opposing defenders. It was also too bad for Devey when everyone found out that the undrafted guard also played the tuba.
In return for Devey, the Patriots are set to receive the second year Celeveland, who was undrafted in 2014 coming out of the University of Miami. After a short stint with the 49ers and being signed to the practice squad, he saw live action during the season, but was a target only once in six played games.

It seems however, that with increased targeting, Cleveland is beginning to find his niche in the NFL. After three receptions for 10 yards in the 49ers preseason game opener against the Houston Texans, his stock on roster rotations is steadily increasing.
With the addition of Cleveland, replacement QB Garoppolo has another option on the pass, thus spreading the field and giving him more room to work with.
However, still solidifying the roster, the Pats have released linebacker LJ Ford and tight end Logan Stokes.
