OPINION: Is It Fair To Call Tom Brady A Traitor?
A couple weeks ago a friend of mine who lives and dies with the New England Patriots had told me that he was so mad at Tom Brady for leaving the Patriots that he un-followed him on social media and called him a “traitor.” Alright maybe this is reasonable as an initial reaction, but this was two months after he left for Tampa Bay. Is it fair for New England fans to call him a traitor?
In my opinion, no way on this earth should New England fans call him a traitor. He gave 20 years to a franchise that was nothing before he burst onto the scene. And over those 20 years just look at the numbers. Three league MVP’s, over over 54,00 passing yards, 541 touchdown passes. But more important are the six Super Bowl rings he won for New England four of which he was the MVP. He was the backbone of a dynasty in New England and is aguably the best player in franchise history.
So if the man wants to end his career in sunny Florida and play for Tampa Bay fans should let him be. After all, he gave them six titles and 20 years of Hall of Fame football. He had done more than what was asked of him during his time in New England, and there is no doubt he will go into Canton one day wearing blue, red and white. So, why hate the guy for doing what he wants? Yes, he may not finish his career with the only NFL franchise he has ever known, but his legacy is cemented forever in the the hearts of Patriots fans forever.
