On Fire Yankees Host Blue Jays In AL East Clash [Start Time, Predictions, Odds, Schedule]

The New York Yankees are looking to capitalize on their latest form of momentum and further their first-place gap in the AL East.

The Toronto Blue Jays traveled to the Bronx for this week’s series against their division competitors and lost 10-8 against the Yankees. They have now won nine of their last 10 games and remain in first with a 5.0 record lead against second place Tampa Bay Rays. The Blue Jays are sitting at fourth in the division, 21.5 games back, and will likely be out of playoff contention this season.

The Blue Jays clamped down on the Yankees for the first half of innings on Monday night, scoring two runs in the first and held the Yankees scoreless until the fifth. The floodgates opened in the fifth and sixth innings, as players scored 10 runs for the pinstripes. Aaron Hicks, DJ LeMahieu and Luke Volt all scored two runs apiece and Giancarlo Stanton tied the Yankee record with a home run in 27 straight games. The Yankees finished with 13 total hits and LeMahieu went 4-for-4 at bat.

For Tuesday night’s clash, Clayton Richard takes the mound as a starter for the Blue Jays, making it his seventh start for the club. Richard hasn’t exactly found his form in a Blue Jays jersey, as he has been averaging 7.46 ERA and has given 15 walks in 25 total innings. With the major threats at bat of Stanton, Aaron Judge and Edwin Encarnacion, expect a high-scoring line in the first few innings for the Yankees.

Johnny Allstaff is set to open for the Yankees but Nestor Cortes is set to take the bulk of the pitches throughout the game. The young lefty has racked up 23 strikeouts in 22 innings and allowed four home runs.

According to Sportsbook Wire, the over/under for Tuesday night’s game is sitting at 10.5 after 18 runs were scored in Monday night’s game, and the money line is sitting at -250 for the Yankees, +220 for the Blue Jays. Game 2 of this AL East series starts at 7:05 p.m. EST and will be broadcasted on YES network. The third game of the series will be held Wednesday in the Bronx.
