Massive Layoffs For NFL Media Members
The NFL recently inked massive television deals, and in accordance with this agreement fired a host of media members. These deals were signed between the NFL and Amazon, CBS, ESPN, Fox and NBC, respectively. In total, 132 members of the NFL media crew were laid off.
While some were recently hired employees, others had been with the NFL for nearly a decade.
“Every offseason, NFL Media makes staffing adjustments for the upcoming season, which results in some positions being eliminated–nowhere near the wildly inaccurate figure circulating on social media–and some being hired, which we expect to announce in the very near future. What we have seen this summer isn’t markedly different than in previous off-seasons,” the NFL said in a statement to Sports Illustrated.
Still, others were not buying the reasons given by the NFL for its hiring and firing decisions.
Ryan, so sorry to hear about this. Really sad that so many loyal employees who took mandatory&voluntary paycuts during the pandemic to help the company, & who came up with creative ways to produce content & limit $$ losses, would be fired after NFL signed $100B TV deals. https://t.co/Tw6TuMYB2m
