The Los Angeles Angels are in fourth place in the AL West, and three games under .500.
The Angels finished the 2024 season with a 63-99 record, finishing last in the AL West. Los Angeles entered the offseason needing to make moves to have a more competitive roster, and the team signed multiple veterans to accommodate its needs.
Los Angeles signed starting pitchers Yusei Kikuchi and Kyle Hendricks, reliever Kenley Jansen, and third baseman Yoan Moncada. The Angels also made a trade for designated hitter Jorge Soler from the Atlanta Braves.
The Angels’ offense has lacked consistency during the 2025 season, led by Mike Trout, Nolan Schanuel and Zach Neto.

The Angels have the most strikeouts in baseball, and are in the bottom 10 for batting average and on-base percentage. Despite the struggles, Los Angeles is in the top five for home runs and the top half of the league for slugging percentage.
Pitching has been a weakness for the Angels, led by Kikuchi, Jose Soriano and Tyler Anderson.
Los Angeles is in the bottom three for walks and hits per inning pitched (WHIP), and the bottom five for ERA, batting average allowed, and home runs allowed. Los Angeles is also in the bottom 10 for strikeouts.
The Angels are nine games back from first place in the AL West and 4½ games back from a wild-card spot.

At the trade deadline, the Angels made moves that indicate the front office thinks the team can make a postseason push. Los Angeles made a trade with the Washington Nationals to acquire relief pitcher Andrew Chafin and Luis Garcia.
Despite the Angels acquiring veteran relievers, it’s difficult to see the team making a postseason appearance due to the lack of consistency in the hitting and pitching departments.
Regardless of whether the Angels make the postseason, this season appears to be a step in the right direction. The Angels are 10 wins away from tying their record from the previous season.
Shanuel is only 23 years old, and Neto is only 24 years old. With two young players contributing at a high level, the Angels could be contenders down the road if the organization can develop and acquire talent.
Even with the Angels making moves at the deadline, the odds don’t believe the team will be contending this season. The Angels have +2000 odds to make the postseason, +25000 odds to win the American League, and +100000 odds to win the World Series.
