LeBron James Joins Oscar Robertson On Elite List As Cleveland Cavs Top Orlando Magic

Following the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 117-103 win over the Orlando Magic at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on Monday night, during which Kevin Love scored a season-high 34 points, Lebron James joined NBA legend Oscar Robertson on an exclusive list of the top 25 players with the highest career points and assists. James had 15 points and 13 assists during this game. “He’s a guy who laid the foundation,” James said of Robertson, “and I’m just trying to carry it on.”

James moved past Norm Nixon into 25th place after his fifth assist. Robertson, meanwhile, finished his Hall of Fame career with 26,710 points and 9,887 assists. James could very well pass Robertson soon in terms of both points scored and assists.

“I give all the credit to the two great franchises I’ve been a part of and the players and the teammates and the coaching staffs that I’ve played for so far that have allowed me to go out and do the things I’ve done in my career,” he said. “So none of that would be possible without them.”

The Cavs are now undefeated at home (8-0) after Monday night’s win. Love scored 27 in the first half, and 17 in one five-minute stretch to give his team a 59-55 lead over the Magic at halftime, after the Cavs were trailing 42-34 following a wasted 12-point lead. Orlando has now dropped 11 in a row to Cleveland.

Cavs head coach David Blatt stated that he was not aware James had matched Robertson until after the game. Regarding this feat, Blatt said: “That gives me chills to even hear that. “That’s an amazing, amazing accomplishment.”

J.R. Smith scored a season-high 26 for the Cavs and Matthew Dellavedova, starting in place of injured Mo Williams and playing with a sore leg, added another 15 for the team.

The Magic will host the New York Knicks next on Wednesday, while the Cavaliers will visit the Toronto Raptors that same day.
