Kyrie Irving Leads Celtics To OT Win Vs. Wizards In D.C., Receives MVP Chants [VIDEO]

After nailing two lethal three-pointers in a 130-125 overtime win against the Washington Wizards, Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving was showered with hums of MVP chants — in D.C.

Kyire Takes Control Of OT Win Against Wizards

Kyrie made a statement: The Celtics are back, and he’s going to be the one to silence any critics and put the team on his back. He did that, and looked like the MVP candidate he typically is in the process. And the fans let him know.

The Celtics, now winners of seven straight, needed overtime to escape the first matchup of the season against the Wizards. Of the 17 OT points the Celtics scored, 12 of them came from the hands of Irving, including two treys down the stretch. He finished with a game-high 38 points, going two-for-nine from the three before the savage daggers he punctured in extra time. Just take a look at the audacity with which Irving pulls up from the arc.

“Those last two shots were amazing. The one in front of our bench was a joke,” said Celtics coach Brad Stevens, who shook his head in disbelief after Irving’s heroics. “How tough that was, he made it look easy.”

Making it look easy as he often does, Irving brushed off the level of difficulty of which his shots were. “Just trying to win the game, honestly,” said Irving. “Just trying to get enough separation. Three-pointers are pretty much a dagger, so I just try to get my feet set, get my elbow pointed to the rim. It was a little deep out, but a very make-able shot.”

Irving’s points came at the most crucial points of the game. He scored 16 of his 48 points over the final seven minutes of the game, willing the Celtics to yet another statement game amid the overcast of doubts that loom over the team. The Celtics will get a well-earned home respite against the Hawks, where Irving will look to make it eight straight.
