The New York Jets continued to beef up their offense with another free agent addition. On Thursday, they went out and signed former Baltimore Raven Ty Montgomery, who could fill in at running back, receiver, or returner. ESPN reported that he’ll join the team on a one-year deal.
The 26-year-old running back was traded to Baltimore just two days after an ill-advised kickoff return against the Los Angeles Rams. Montgomery disregarded his coaches, who told him to take a knee, attempted to return the ball and instead fumbled it away, preventing any chance at a possible comeback. This let the Rams hold on to the win without having to face quarterback Aaron Rodgers for another time.
While the addition of Le’Veon Bell makes running back a secure position, Montgomery could fill a need at kick returner. He also drew interest from the Miami Dolphins.

30 SPORTS FIGURES WHO DIED IN 2018 – TRIBUTE SLIDESHOW
Jets head coach Adam Gase had no problem praising players, such as backup Elijah McGuire, but it seems that that praise didn’t guarantee a roster spot. Apparently, the need for a more experienced player behind Bell was too strong.
In six games with the Ravens, Montgomery rushed for 83 yards on 15 carries and caught 10 passes for 65 yards.
The Jets seem to have reversed their team building, shunning the defense-heavy sets once fielded by Rex Ryan that brought them to back-to-back AFC Championship games. Instead, they’ve put together Sam Darnold, Bell, Montgomery, Robby Anderson and Chris Herndon in a solid offense that should put the young quarterback in a position to thrive.
