Aaron Rodgers’ unexcused absence from the New York Jets’ minicamp has sparked a media frenzy, but head coach Robert Saleh insists it’s a non-issue for the team. On Wednesday, Saleh downplayed concerns about unrest within the organization, stating that there is no friction between Rodgers and his teammates.
“Aaron and I are on the exact same page,” Saleh said to ESPN. “There’s no issue between Aaron or his teammates, for that matter. We addressed it yesterday. It’s more of an issue for everyone outside the building than it is inside. That’s about it.”
Rodgers’ decision to miss the mandatory minicamp stems from a prior commitment he had informed Saleh about earlier in the offseason. Despite participating in the voluntary portion of the offseason program from April to early June, Rodgers did not attend the minicamp, making his absence technically unexcused. This leaves Rodgers subject to the NFL’s fine schedule, potentially costing him over $50,000.
Granting Rodgers a free pass while fining Pro Bowl pass-rusher Haason Reddick, who also skipped the minicamp due to a contract dispute, would have set a double standard. Both players face fines for their unexcused absences, maintaining a semblance of fairness within the team.

Cornerback D.J. Reed supported Rodgers, “He’s been here for the majority of the practices that weren’t mandatory,“ Reed said. “I think I saw something that Saleh said that AR had something important that he had to attend. That’s our quarterback. If it’s important to him, it’s important to us. It’s really not a big deal.”
Rodgers, 40, is looking to bounce back from a season-ending Achilles tear suffered on the fourth snap of the 2023 season. The veteran quarterback’s leadership and performance are crucial for the Jets, striving to build a winning culture without distractions.
At the end of last season, Rodgers famously emphasized the need to “flush the bulls—“ to create a thriving environment.
While the media buzzes with speculation, within the Jets’ organization, the focus remains on the bigger picture. Saleh’s reassurance and Reed’s support indicate that the team is united and undistracted by Rodgers’ absence.
For the Jets, this minicamp drama is just another external noise to be filtered out as they prepare for the upcoming season.
