Jaxson Dart To Undergo Season-Ending Knee Surgery

Another injury blow for New York Giants fans, and it looks like another season to forget. Franchise QB Jaxson Dart is out for the year with a season-ending knee injury.

After what seemed like another fantastic start for the Giants this year, injuries have taken out another star player, just one year after RB Cam Skattebo was injured, cutting his rookie season short and crushing playoff hopes.

The injury came early in the first quarter when Dart was spun around and fell awkwardly, twisting his knee. What initially looked like a serious injury became less concerning when Dart got up and walked off the field. Relief came again when reports showed Dart refusing to give up his jersey, showing he wanted back in the game.

Even though the team did not let him continue playing, it seemed like Dart had avoided a worst-case scenario, but that was not the case.

The damage is to the meniscus and MCL, even though the ACL is okay.

The Giants’ backup QB situation isn’t promising either. Only two QBs were suited for last week’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Jameis Winston was Dart’s backup and had a very unpromising relief appearance.

Winston only threw for 111 yards, even with his early entrance to the game. He threw one interception, and on any big play, the Giants were hesitant to throw the ball. Winston is a high-ceiling/low-floor player, but it would be tough to see the Giants make any sort of playoff push without consistent QB play.

Perhaps the Giants look to make a short-term move for a replacement for Dart, but the market is limited in terms of players the Giants would consider an upgrade over Winston.

For now, the Giants will have to settle on Winston and hope he can step up as he has before, but any further injuries at that position will be disastrous for New York. Their next man up for now will come from the practice squad or free agency.
