Jalen Ramsey Asks Jaguars For Trade After Loss To Texans

Following the Jaguars’ 13-12 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday, cornerback Jalen Ramsey asked for a trade out of Jacksonville through his agent, David Mulugheta.

Tensions between Ramsey and head coach Doug Marrone reached a boiling point during Sunday’s game, when Ramsey directed a loud outburst towards Marrone. Players and coaches had to get in between the two and break them up as the situation escalated.

This is not the first time the two-time Pro-Bowl cornerback has expressed problems with the Jaguars’ coaching staff. During Ramsey’s rookie year in 2016, he advocated for the firing of the entire coaching staff, citing a scheme that limited his use. The cornerback’s teammates and fellow defensive backs, Tashaun Gipson and Davon House, echoed his sentiments. Problems arose again at the end of the 2017 season when Ramsey was openly critical of defensive calls made in the fourth quarter of the AFC Championship game against New England.

Marrone severely downplayed the incident after the game, stating that he had not even spoken to Ramsey about the outburst and that the team would not discipline him. The coach cited the emotion and passion necessary to play the game, saying, “Those things, they happen all the time. They really do.”

This problem is just an addition to the laundry list of complaints Ramsey has about the Jaguars. The team stated that they would not work on a contract extension for the fourth-year Ramsey, who countered by saying that the Jaguars would not get a “hometown discount”. He showed up to training camp this season in a Brinks truck, a blatant visual representation of his disdain for not receiving a larger contract.

While Ramsey evidently wants out of Jacksonville as quickly as possible, the Jaguars are not going to give up their Pro-Bowl corner without getting something in return for the former fifth overall pick. League sources have come out and said they believe a trade could be completed sometime this week. However, the Jaguars have been in talks with various teams shopping around for “at least one first-round pick.”

With Ramsey anxious to get out, will any team be able to match the Jaguars’ asking price and land a star corner heading into week three?
