After the Philadelphia Flyers rallied to tie it late in the third period, Jakub Voracek scored at 1:41 of overtime to give them a 4-3 home victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday.
Claude Giroux led a 2-on-1 rush and fed Voracek, who fired a one-timer past goalie Petr Mrazek from the right side for his sixth goal.
“The [defenseman] came at me, and I told myself if he comes at me and goes down, I’m going to pass it across,” said Giroux, who extended his NHL career-high point streak to 10 games with the assist. “Ended up pretty well.”
Philadelphia defenseman Mark Streit tied it 3-3 when he scored following a scamble in the crease with 1:04 left in regulation.

Chris VandeVelde and Roman Lyubimov also scored to help the Flyers run their regular-season home winning streak against the Red Wings to 12 games. The Red Wings last defeated the Flyers in Philadelphia during the regular season on Jan. 25, 1997.
Michal Neuvirth made 22 saves for The Flyers (5-5-1).
Henrik Zetterberg, Dylan Larkin and Andreas Athanasiou scored for the Red Wings.
After Detroit blew a two-goal lead, Zetterberg scored at 8:18 of the third period to give them a 3-2 lead. Zetterberg finished off a 2-on-1 with Tomas Tatar. Tatar created the break when he robbed Philadelphia’s Radko Gudas of the puck at mid-ice, passing rapidly to Justin Abdelkader before a return pass set up the fast break.
Larkin and Athanasiou scored 16 seconds apart in the first period to put the Red Wings up 2-0.
It marked the eighth time in 11 games the Flyers allowed the opening goal, although they’re 3-4-1 in those games.
“We’ve got to stop doing this,” Giroux said. “It’s getting too old. We need to find a way to have better starts.”
Mrazek made 36 saves for Detroit. His first one was clutch: Flyers center Nick Cousins went on a breakaway five minutes into the first period, and Mrazek stayed on his feet and deflected his shot into the corner at 5:02.
VandeVelde scored his first goal in 55 games at 13:39 of the second period to cut the Detroit lead to 2-1, and then Lyubimov’s first NHL goal at 3:51 of the third period tied it 2-2.
”I’m glad I can come out here and contribute and score a goal for her,” VandeVelde said.
The goal capped a dominating second period for Philadelphia, which outshot Detroit 17-6 over the 20 minutes.
Larkin also displayed his dynamic offensive skills late in the first period. He blocked a shot at the Detroit blue line, raced the length of the ice to grab the loose puck, and rapidly fired a backhand shot from the slot off the crossbar with 1:58 remaining.
The Red Wings next host the Winnipeg Jets on Friday, while the Flyers will visit the New York Islanders on Thursday.
