It seems like fights are almost a part of every semi-physical game these days. Even so, this Indiana high school basketball game between the hosting Griffith Panthers and the Hammond Wildcats certainly certainly got interesting. During the first quarter of this highly contested match-up, home team’s Anthony Murphy was on a breakaway after a Hammond turnover: instead of letting him score, Wildcats’ Tim Echoles fouled him hard into the padded boards.

Murphy was clearly hurt and Panthers players ran to their teammates aid. Now, what happened next might shock most: as the referees were attempting to separate the two teams, fans got involved, resulting in all-out anarchy. The announcer was yelling for all spectators to return to their seats, but the damage was already done.

The IHSAA officials ejected Echoles and then called the game; on top of this, the Griffith police department will continue to review footage and see if any adults threw haymakers. In the end, the game will be rescheduled for a later date.
