George Floyd’s Family Attends Vikings Season Opener
The family of George Floyd, the African American man who was killed by Minnesota police earlier this year sparking nationwide social justice protests, will be in attendance for the Minnesota Vikings home opener against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Before the game, the teams intend to listen to “Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing,” traditionally known as the “black national anthem,” in place of the traditional national anthem which is going to be played before every week one game.
It feels like the Vikings are one of the teams that have actually made substantial contributions towards the fight against social injustice and racial inequality by creating a scholarship for underprivileged African American students which are going to be given out once a year. The players will also be wearing shirts during the pregame warmups that state “Be Change.”
The Vikings and Packers also will come together in their respective end zones, which will be marked with the messages “It Takes All of Us” and “End Racism.”
